Paseo - Brian

21 June, 2007 (07:36) | Spain

One of the things I love about life in Granada is the Paseo.  On nice evenings and especially on fridays and saturdays, what seems like the entire town goes for a walk.  After a long (and usually very hot, it was about 100F yestarday) day, around 8 or 9 pm the temperature has cooled enough to be perfect for a stroll.  The town is situated such that it gets a gentle breeze from the mountains in the evening.  Everyone goes to the same place for paseo – the center of town – and walks around the streets that make up that area, window shopping and chatting.

Stopping for ice cream or a quick tapa is part of the fun, as is watching everyone else who is out doing the same.  It really is everyone, from small children to seniors.  As the it get closer to 8pm in the evenings the discussions with the neighbors in the courtyard turn to the paseo – what a nice night, are you going for a walk tonight?  Yes, I am.  Have you tried the pistachio at Los Italianos?  No, but I had a great tapa at Potemkin last night.  Just wonderful.
