Jukeboxes - Brian
We were in San Francisco a few weeks ago for Decompression and some business at the Spanish Consulate. We sought out our favorite jukebox in town – at the Gold Cane on upper Haight. We have yet to see a bar in Spain that has a jukebox and sometimes we just miss it.
As usual we chatted with the bartender and we got on great; he ended up giving us all the “free plays” we could use on the jukebox and from then on it was nothing but some great old tunes from Johnny Cash to the Stones. Time flies when you’ve got a great place to relax and good tunes mixed with a solid bartender. Besides we had nothing else to do – even though we had an appointment at the Consulate for that day it wasn’t going to happen – they were closed for Columbus Day. Day 1 that is. In Spain its Dia de la Hispanidad and its October 12, we got back in time to celebrate that too. Kinda weird when you think of the two countries history linked around Columbus and yet they don’t celebrate the same way or even the same day.
Soon enough a bunch of our friends joined us at the bar and my memory gets a little fuzzy. We made a welcome home sign for some friends of ours whose apartment we were staying in, played some pool and who knows what else. It doesn’t really matter, we never have had a bad time at the Cane, we visit every time we’re in town.
