Odd searches - Brian

26 January, 2008 (09:17) | Granada

One of the more interesting statistics that our web site collects is the search terms people used to find this site.  If you type in “brian shannon granada” for example you’ll find this site right away with Google and our web service will tell us that’s what you searched for that lead you here.

Recently I noticed an odd query in the list – “where to find american peanut butter in granada spain”.  Unfortunately the person probably didn’t find the answer here but it got me thinking; we have learned a lot about life in Granada over the last year and its time to start sharing some of it.

So, where do you buy peanut butter in Granada?  Well, it is pretty hard to find because spanish people don’t typically eat it so most of the usual grocery stores like Coviran and Super Sol don’t carry it.  To start with it probably helps to know what its called in spanish so you can ask someone at a store; its “crema de cacahuete.”  You can find it in Hipercor, the grocery store associated with El Corte Ingles.

There are two of them in town; the first is in the El Corte Ingles on Acera de Darro but its a little tricky to find since the grocery store is inside El Corte Ingles on the lower level of the store and the only escalator that goes down from the first floor is near the cosmetics section.  The other Hipercor is on Calle Mendez Nuñez right by the autovia A92, you can see it from the highway.  Along with peanut butter you can also find lots of other foreign food at Hipercor and there is also a gourmet food store associated with Hipercor at both locations that is on the same level but outside of the main grocery store.

You can also usually find peanut butter at Carrefour but those stores are a little harder to find if you are just in town for a short while so I won’t try to explain where they are.

Why do we know so much about peanut butter?  We’ve got a dog that loves it and Nutella just doesn’t do it for him so we had to find the real thing.  The people we board our dog with when we travel now have a supply of peanut butter too but that’s a different story.
