What’s in a name? - Brian
I don’t consider my name to be unusual, its very common in English. Sure some people spell it Bryan but everyone can pronounce it and it doesn’t stand out. Not so here.
It’s funny how many databases your name can end up in and how people interpret it. As I’ve said before, Granada is a small town and we’ve met lots of people who somehow manage to (mis) remember me in situations where I wouldn’t expect anyone to remember me. In some ways it’s nice to be more memorable, but not always.
At the dry cleaner I’m known as “Priar” in their database and have accepted my alter ego rather than trying to change it.
When I call for chinese food delivery and say “Brian” they immediately know my address, they have no computer and apparently no other clients named Brian.
When we go to the local spa for a massage I am the only Brian in their customer list, no need to give a last name or phone number when making an appointment.
At the car rental garage I am Brian and they have a copy of my file handy in the desk drawer so I don’t need to give them my drivers license or address any more. Seems like they really could use a computer…
To the owner of our local teateria (tea shop) I am “bree-ahn”
To the pizza delivery people I can only imagine what they call me, they only find our house about half the time and never want to return so I have to keep changing the phone number I give them. Lucky for us they don’t keep their list of customers by name or address.
Of course I mean all of this in good spirits even though it still makes me laugh. It has made us reconsider our list of potential names for children though, its not always fun being different.

You forgot to mention that our veterinarian recently called our dog “Brian”, and when we pointed this out the vet explained the mix up by saying “oh, well, it’s because the other Brian I know is a horse.”
