Rohnson - you have a wonderful writing style - and not that i ever had plans to see an actual bull fight - after reading of your experience -and listening to judy's story of it - it will not be on my "things i want to do" list - thank you for the enlightenment

[...] To add to our cultural experience we also attended the bull fight on Thursday night. I had heard all the gory descriptions from my parents and Brian and Shannon so I had an idea of what I was in for. Because this is the “off season” for bull fighting, this event was at 10pm and everyone was dressed very casually. The tickets were also much cheaper. It also seemed that the bull fighters were in fact novice. At one point it was clear that the final “stab” was not performed effectively as the bull continued to stagger around. Three men chased it around and were repeatedly stabbing the bull in the head to speed up it’s death (I know this because Brian was narrating loudly as I turned my head the other way). I have been told that bull fighting is an important sport in some cultures. I cannot understand why. We left after 45 minutes.Shannon (my sister-in-law) has done quite a lot of reading on the topic. Please see her blog for more details. http://www.dobleve.org/blog/2009/05/12/%c2%a1toro-%c2%a1toro-%c2%a1toro/ [...]

I take it you did not enjoy the bullfighting. I did enjoy the story, however. You illustrated the events very colorlfully. I wonder how I would react if I were to witness the killing of a bull regardless of how many of the patrons were 'into' it. What a wonderful writing style you have.

Hi, I'm Shannon's Motherin law and happened to be with her, unfortunately for us that we were there, and I agree with all she had to say. As I returned to the US I just told everyone it was awful and worse than I'd expected. Thank goodness we were able to escape after 4 of these events. However, Shannon and I spent the other 3 surveying the crowd instead of the barbaric treatment of animals. I realize this is a custom in this country, but was really shocking for me.
